Microwave motion sensor for ceiling mounting 360º.

The microwave motion sensor is a discreet switch that, activated only by motion detection, helps us to improve the energy efficiency of our installations. The high-frequency electromagnetic wave sensors (5.8GHz) integrated in the sensor circuit allow automated management of lighting installations.

Why is it appropriate to install a microwave motion sensor?

A microwave motion sensor allows us to detect movement through doors, partitions or glass and windows, even through thin walls. In offices with different compartments, industrial buildings or multi-room installations, the microwave motion sensor is the perfect device, much more efficient and accurate than infrared sensors.

Installing the microwave motion sensor

  • Disconnect the power supply and verify that the circuit is de-energized.
  • Separate the front cover with a slight counterclockwise twist.
  • It is not necessary to unscrew the rear cover, as the connections are made from the side panel of the sensor.
  • Screw the assembly against the ceiling with the screws supplied.
  • Set the time, sensitivity (distance and angle of detection), and lux (ambient illumination) factors using the existing roulette wheels.
  • Connect the wiring according to the installation diagram.
  • Close the cover with the reverse rotation.

Remarks to be taken into account when installing a microwave motion sensor:

  • We recommend installation by an electrician.
  • Avoid placing objects in front of the sensor that may affect the correct motion detection.
  • Avoid installing the sensor near areas where the air temperature is altered: heating, fans, air conditioners, etc.
  • Do not connect a load higher than 300W LED

The sensor does not respond properly, what should I do?

In most occasions the motion sensor will require adjustments and revisions for a correct operation according to how we want it to be activated. To do this, you should check the following points:

  • The sensor does not activate the circuit:
  1. Check that the motion sensor is receiving electrical charge.
  2. Does the pilot light stay on after detecting motion? If so, check the wiring.
  3. If the LED does not light after detecting motion, please check that it is set to day/night mode correctly.
  4. Check that the sensor is connected to the correct voltage (220-240V-AC).
  • Sensitivity is poor/insufficient:
  1. Check that there is nothing in front of the detector pilot light hindering signal reception.
  2. Check the ambient operating temperature.
  3. Check that the source of the motion signal is within the detection range of the sensor.
  4. Check the height of the installation.
  • The motion sensor does not automatically disconnect the circuit:
  1. Check that there is no constant motion, however small, within the detection change.
  2. Check that the operating time is not set to the maximum (15 minutes).
  3. Check that the current in the circuit is less than 5A.
  4. Check that there are no sudden temperature changes near the sensor, air conditioning or heating emission sources, etc.

Questions

P: Question: Hi, I see that this sensor has a two-wire output (N and A). Although it has a two-wire output, would it be possible to connect only the output to one wire (the A, I understand that the phase) and that the neutral is taken from the supply (as, for example, your reference ST05A)?
Thanks
Carlos
R: Answer: If possible the neutrals are common throughout the installation, you can use the return with the nearest neutral.
P: Question: Hello, I have a problem in a community of neighbors, as there are installed PIR sensors and with gusts of wind they turn on. This kind of microwave detector would solve the problem? Also to know if it would detect people inside the houses, because then it would not be a solution, thank you.
R: Answer: Microwave sensors can penetrate materials such as thin walls.
P: Question: Hi. I am looking for a motion sensor for a light for 3 bathrooms in a house. I think it is better microwave than PIR so that it does not turn off when showering for example or if you are sitting with little movement. On the other hand I do not know if it is true that the microwaves go through walls and will detect movement in the hallway staying on all the time. Let's see what you think about it. As they are adjustable I do not want to hide it in a false ceiling because it would be inaccessible if I want to make changes. That's why I thought about this one. I have also seen some microwave that looks like a recessed spotlight but I think you do not have. Let's see if you can advise me on whether it is suitable for my purpose and also know how many lights can be connected to a single sensor, since each bathroom has about 3-5 led lights. I congratulate you for your youtube videos. I look forward to your reply. Thanks
R: Answer: The microwave motion sensor works better than a PIR one, but you have to take into account that it can give false ignitions depending on the sensitivity and location, because if it can detect with objects in front. The wall model is the ref. S2180. If you have problems that sensitivity with microwaves may be better depending on the case one PIR where you can adjust the times of ignition.
Depending on the led luminaire is about 300w -1000w power depends on the sensor.
